Heathrow expansion – a project of unprecedented scale that includes a third runway – poses a grave threat to the Colne Valley Regional Park and the wider environment of the region. While the Court of Appeal ruling on the Airports National Policy Statement is a great start, we know Heathrow will continue to fight to keep its ill-conceived and destructive scheme alive. There can be no doubt, however, that in the context of international concern over climate change, the idea of Heathrow expansion is now politically toxic. We now look to the Government to confirm a third runway at Heathrow and its associated development will be scrapped once and for all.
