Join us for a hands-on experience learning about aquatic life and how to protect it at the Riverfly Survey Taster event! Taking place on Sat Jan 20 2024 at 13:00 GMT, this exciting event is held at the Visitors Centre in the Colne Valley Regional Park. We will be meeting in the community room next to the Cafe, before moving to the river to carry out the survey. Immerse yourself in nature as we explore the wonders of riverflies and their importance in monitoring water quality.

During this in-person event, participants will learn how to conduct a Riverfly Survey and contribute to vital environmental research. Our Rivers team will guide you through the process, teaching you how to identify different species of aquatic life and assess their abundance, in line with work done by the Riverfly Partnership. No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to learn and get involved! This event will involve entering the river to help conduct a survey, waders will be provided so you will not be getting wet, but you must be able to swim to take part.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with nature and contribute to scientific research. Following on from this taster session, you will be offered the opportunity to receive formal training as part of the Riverfly Partnership so to carry out regular riverfly surveys so to contribute to protecting and monitoring our rivers.

No experience in citizen science is needed, so please come along if you are interested in learning more about wildlife in our rivers! Please bare in mind that for safety purposes, to take part in surveying, you must be able to swim.
