This Colne Valley Festival Fortnight Event will be a guided walk and talk of Maple Lodge Nature Reserve, organised and led by Maple Lodge Conservation Society. On Sunday, 23rd July this private reserve will be open to the general public for a Summer Walk & Talk.

The reserve is one of Rickmansworth’s hidden secrets and is home to a wide range of wildlife including waterfowl, woodland birds, bats and other mammals.  The Summer Walk & Talk also provides an opportunity for visitors to find out about the huge variety of invertebrates that can be found on the reserve, including bees, butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies, beetles and spiders.

The Walk & Talk will be organised by members of the Maple Lodge Conservation Society, not only to show new visitors around the reserve, but also to highlight the different species of wildlife that live there. Keith Pursall, the Society’s chairman, says “We look forward to welcoming people to this very special place, especially those who have not visited Maple Lodge before.  After being given a guided tour of the reserve visitors can, if they wish, become members of the Society on the day of their visit.”

Maple Lodge Nature Reserve is owned by Thames Water who lease it to the members of Maple Lodge Conservation Society, who work hard all year round to maintain the 40 acres of woodland, meadow and lakes.  Membership of the Society is open to anyone with an interest in conservation and natural history.

Meeting location – Maple Lodge Nature Reserve – Clubhouse.

Parking information – limited parking in Maple Lodge Nature Reserve car park, otherwise along Maple Lodge Close.

Level – easy (if you’re fit enough for a 2 hour walk!)

Accessibility – parts of the reserve are wheelchair friendly, but not all.  We expect to divide people into small groups so, if there are disabled attendees, we would tailor their walk accordingly (i.e restricted to the wheelchair friendly parts of the reserve).
