Join us at Harefield Place Nature Reserve to Balsam Bash!

Are you passionate about preserving our local wildlife and protecting native biodiversity? Come on down to Harefield Place Nature Reserve and help us remove the invasive Himalayan Balsam. We will be meeting at Denham Country Park before walking from the car park outside of the Café to the site to remove balsam.

This plant causes huge problems, despite being deceptively pretty. It outcompetes local native plant species, and due to short root systems leads to erosion of river banks and increases siltation of rivers, driving decreases in fish spawning. Removing it is the best way to control infestations and stop the spread of this plant, so please get involved if you can!

This hands-on event is a great way to get involved in environmental conservation efforts while enjoying the outdoors and meeting like-minded individuals. No experience is necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to get your hands dirty!

Note that the meeting point is the Visitor Centre in Denham from where the group will walk to the site at Harefield Place Nature Reserve.

Booking Instructions

Please book your space in advance on eventbrite, where you will also find more details of location, transport, parking, timings and what to bring.

Please note that this event was originally scheduled for 16th May but has been moved. This is because Hillingdon Natural History Society who manage Harefield Place Nature Reserve contacted us on 14th May to say that the Balsam on site is still quite low, and they have suggested that the event be delayed given the balsam had still not grown that tall, making it harder to pull among the nettles and puts more strain on volunteers back.
