What we do

Groundwork’s Green Teams prepare local unemployed residents for careers in conservation and horticulture by offering work experience and training in grounds improvement and maintenance. They aim to improve the environment and people’s skills, prospects and employability.

We are the leasehold owners of 4 irreplaceable ancient woodlands in Denham: Northmoor Hill Local Nature Reserve, Wyatts Covert, Great Caps and Little Caps. Theses woods are managed for the benefit of local people and wildlife to ensure they have a sustainable long term future as part of the landscape of the Colne Valley Regional Park.

The creation of a Green Infrastructure Strategy  for the Colne Valley Regional Park aims to bring the Green and Blue on the map to the forefront in planning decisions and feature the landscape of the Valley as a whole rather than the council boundaries which don’t exist as real barriers to people and wildlife. In addition the Crane Valley has been added to this strategy in order to truly provide a landscape picture of the area.

The Colne Catchment Action Network (ColneCAN) partnership brings together water companies, local authorities, charities, anglers, conservationists, local residents and businesses to ensure a co-ordinated catchment-wide approach and local action. Colne Valley Landscape Partnership brought together a group of partners with the desire to improve the Colne Valley for the benefit of people and wildlife. This Partnership Programme ran until September 2022 and delivered a suite of projects with a £2.5m funding pot; £1.63 of which was from the Heritage Lottery. Enhancements covered: physical improvements to countryside and river settings, habitat improvements, community activities and will foster a greater understanding of the Colne Valley amongst residents, visitors and those with a more professional interaction such as council planning departments.

The Colne Valley Park Visitor Centre provides everything you need for a successful trip, including a small shop and toilets. There is also parking for cars and coaches.

Groups can also book a River Detective (KS2) day focused on the River Misbourne in Denham Country Park led by our professional educators from Iver Environment Centre or visit our outdoor learning centre, Iver Environment Centre, for an imaginative curriculum based outdoor adventure

The year 2015 marked both the 800^th anniversary of the signing of Magna Carta and the 50^th anniversary of the creation of the Colne Valley Regional Park. Some people believe Magna Carta may have been sealed on the north side of the Thames at Ankerwycke in what is now part of the Park.

Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, this fascinating project captured the ever changing landscape of the Colne Valley Regional Park. This important photographic record helps us understand how and why these changes come about, as well as giving us a chance to explore the Park’s wonderful heritage from an intriguing perspective.
