During Festival Fortnight Woodoaks Farm are organising a Butterfly Walk with Martin Taylor.
About the walk:
The BIG BUTTERFLY COUNT is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping us assess the health of our environment simply by counting the amount and type of butterflies and day flying moths we see.
Martin Taylor, butterfly enthusiast and Woodoaks volunteer, will lead us in a two hour walk, when we hope to see regular garden species such as Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell and Red Admiral, but also search for grassland loving species such as Meadow Brown, Ringlet, Gatekeeper and the Skippers.
If we are lucky, we may see the beautiful Marbled White and perhaps the Small Heath which was recently recorded on the farm for the first time.
Martin will also be pointing out some of the plants which are vital to the survival of butterfly species in their caterpillar stage and explaining how The Soil Association Land Trust are positively working to create improved butterfly habitats at Woodoaks Farm.
You don’t need any special equipment to take part, just make sure you come with open eyes, a curious mind and of course… plenty of water!
You may like to download your own butterfly chart or go PAPER FREE by downloading the free BIG BUTTERFLY COUNT app in advance of the walk here https://bigbutterflycount.butterfly-conservation.org/
The walk is two hours long and incorporates a hill.
