Footpath closure notice September 2024: We are pleased to let you know that funding has been secured to replace the boardwalk in the woods. This means that the footpath will be temporarily closed while the work takes place and is being completed. The work should take place the week commencing 30th September, weather permitting. You can still visit the wood, using other footpaths.
We will also be resurfacing the car park so please expect limited places to park whilst work are being taken place. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Any enquiry about this project please email us: [email protected]
This varied woodland is full of wildlife and geological interest. Follow the ‘rock trail’ to experience the interesting geological features of this site including a swallow hole where a stream disappears into the ground, see the Bucks Geology Group for more information. [Please note that everything is visible except point 5, ‘Fossil Swallow Hole’.]
Northmoor Hill is designated as a Local Nature Reserve and as Ancient Woodland – land which has been continuously wooded since 1600 and presumably much earlier as tree planting was very rare before this date. The Denham Woods circular walk starts from the car park on Tilehouse Lane and takes you through several ancient woodlands and along the Misbourne valley.
Northmoor Hill Wood Nature Reserve is part of Denham Woods which the Colne Valley Regional Park are the leasehold owners of.
Denham Woods are made up of Northmoor Hill woods, along with the adjacent Wyatts Covert and Caps Wood in Tatling End.
